An Operations and Maintenance Information Open System Alliance

What is MIMOSA

MIMOSA™ is an alliance of Operations & Maintenance (O&M) solution providers and end-user companies who are focused on developing consensus-driven open data standards to enable Open Standards-based O&M Interoperability.

MIMOSA is a not-for-profit trade association dedicated to developing and encouraging the adoption of open information standards in manufacturing, fleet, and facility environments – information standards which enable collaborative asset lifecycle management. MIMOSA members come from process and discrete manufacturing companies, facility management companies, military organizations, capital equipment OEMs, and suppliers of asset management software systems.

Why MIMOSA is Necessary

Enterprises that are critically dependent upon complex physical assets have historically focused integration efforts on two major horizontal layers; Real-Time Control and Business Information Systems. Experts within these two areas seldom work directly with each other and do not focus on integration between the layers, which has resulted in a significant vertical information gap. This gap is compounded when O&M processes, systems and people are not efficiently integrated with each other, resulting in a corresponding horizontal information gap. Together, these gaps create an empty space in the very center of enterprise process and information integration.

In the past, operational inefficiencies coming from the lack of integration have been overlooked or minimized due to a general lack of interdisciplinary understanding. Overall optimization requires proper integration of O&M processes, systems and people. MIMOSA is working on effective solutions to eliminate these impediments to efficiency.

The MIMOSA Mission

To develop and encourage adoption of open information standards for Operations and Maintenance (O&M) as well as for Collaborative Asset Lifecycle Management (CALM).

The MIMOSA Objectives

  • Publish open specifications for Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) andCondition-based Maintenance (CBM). These XML-based specifications enable end-to-end, vertical & horizontal information integration.
  • As a trade association, promote cooperative O&M and CALM market development
  • Provide a forum for the O&M and CALM Community, bringing together experts in cross-disciplinary technologies, products and services to enable complex O&M and CALM solutions for:
    • Equipment Operators & Maintainers
    • Equipment OEM's
    • Fleet Managers
    • HMI Industry
    • EAM Industry
    • PAM Industry
    • ODHS Industry
    • MES Industry
    • CM Industry
  • Be an industry advocate for the capture, use and reuse of consistently defined O&M information in collaborative asset lifecycle management (CALM).

Technical Information:

MIMOSA provides a series of interrelated information standards. The Common Conceptual Object Model (CCOM) provides a foundation for all MIMOSA standards, while the Common Relational Information Schema (CRIS) provides a means to store enterprise O&M information. MIMOSA also provides metadata reference libraries and a series of information exchange standards using XML and SQL.

In addition, MIMOSA maintains strong industry ties with other formal standards groups. For example, MIMOSA standards are compliant with and form the informative reference to the published ISO 13374-1 standard for machinery diagnostic systems. Additionally, MIMOSA is a D-Liaison with ISO TC184 SC5 WG7, working on the emerging ISO 18435 integration standard.
